Is Adopt Me! Really Promoting Animal Cruelty? A Surprising Reddit Debate

A game is just a game, right?

I was scrolling around on Reddit the other day when I came across a subreddit all about Adopt Me! Here, you’ll find people trying to trade, make friends, discuss aspects of the game, etc.

Well, I found a post that shocked me a bit! Someone said the game promotes animal cruelty. In my opinion, it’s just a game and shouldn’t be taken like that. However, I wanted to share their thoughts.

Here’s what they said:

Why adopt me resembles animal cruelty

So first off, the game itself is just OK, but the people make it much worse by scamming etc. But for now I will talk about how it resembles animal cruelty.

First off, it’s not even about adopting someone, its buy a pet and grind money by taking care of it.

No one ever adopts a kid, check the nursery, always empty, but the game just sunk all about the pets, and they began having rankings like rare, legendary, common, uncommon, etc.

I do agree with people viewing common pets as useless, and that’s annoying.

I hate this because it makes players see common pets as useless and legendary pets as a wow thing.

And for goodness sake, the only reason everyone has their pet following them is because whenever they need something they can give it to them and get money, that’s not love, that’s just horrible.

All these ranks of pets lead to flexers showing off their rare legendary pet, when you get the same amount of money no matter their rank, so what’s the point?

But, I definitely disagree with this point.

And the last one, the one that ANGERS me the most!!

TRADING PETS!!

What the heck!? It’s all about trading pets like they are toys.

This is a bad lesson to kids who play this! (Many kids play this because it’s most popular and very bubbly and colourful) this is teaching kids that pets are second class citizens! This shocks me!

Pets are not things you can trade or something, they’re live creatures with standards, I know this is just a game but I think it’s a bad influence on little kids who could think it’s the right thing to do.

That’s an interesting perspective – and it’s very … reaching! I feel like most people know it’s just a game, and you don’t treat animals like this in real life.

I certainly don’t agree with the OP. Just thought this was interesting and wanted to share it with you guys! Hopefully, this is an unpopular opinion.
